Walks

We have devised three walks which include Cock Road Ridge.

The full details of the walks can be downloaded as .pdf files which can be viewed using Adobe Reader. If you don't have a copy of Adobe Reader you can download it free of charge from Adobe (opens in a new window).

Look out for lots of wildlife, great views and interesting features. Our downloadable sketch map shows the sites of historical interest, some of which can still be seen today. There is a lot to see so why not give one of the walks a try.

Walk 1 - There and Back Along Cock Road Ridge

Along the Ridge you will be able to see a pond, an ancient oak tree, old fruit orchards and an old engine house from the days of coal mining in Kingswood. A direction finder has been installed on a large sculpted tree trunk which has been sited at one of the high points showing what you can see in the view. Follow this link to Walk 1 There and Back Along Cock Road Ridge to open a description of the walk in a new window.

Walk 2 - Cock Road Ridge and Grimsbury Farm

This walk takes you along the Ridge as in the first walk and then takes you a bit further to Grimsbury Farm run by the Friends of Grimsbury Farm. There are farm animals, birds and pets to see as well as a duck pond. There is a children's play area as well as a barn cafe and toilets. Follow this link to Walk 2 Cock Road Ridge and Grimsbury Farm to open a description of the walk in a new window.

Walk 3 - Cock Road Ridge to Overscourt Wood

The fitter amongst you might like to undertake this walk from Cock Road Ridge to Overscourt Wood which is just over 8 miles long. It takes you along the length of Cock Road Ridge, through Grimsbury Farm, Warmley Forest Park and on up to Overscourt Wood and back. Another sculpture is sited at the top of Overscourt Wood as a link between the two parts of the Forest of Avon. Follow this link to Walk 3 Cock Road Ridge to Overscourt Wood to open a description of the walk in a new window.

Just Wander!

If you would rather just wander around taking in the sights and sounds of Cock Road Ridge, park in Westons Way, Kingswood, (BS15 9RR). Walk along Westons Way, passing The Old Plough pub on the right, to Cock Road and turn left. Almost immediately cross the road when it is safe and look for a footpath between Nos 68 and 70 Cock Road. You will see a gate at the entrance to the Ridge. There is an information board here which will show you the pathways around the Ridge.
